Debuting in 1994, four years after their re-establishment, the Lange 1 is widely considered the most recognizable watch Lange & Sohne has ever created. Known for its archetypal Lange design, it combines an elegant construction with an unusual dial arrangement to create what has since become an icon of horological design language. Now expanded across numerous variants, the Lange 1 collection is a large and essential piece of Langes offering with the Lange 1 Lumen ref. 117.035 sitting as one of the most unique. Launched in 2012 and featuring the Lange 1s iconic aesthetic, the Lange 1 Lumen is a modernized take on the Lange 1s rather classical aesthetic. Sporting a circular 41mm case made of platinum with a polished domed bezel, simple straight lugs, and a brushed mid-case that measures a relatively thin 10mm tall it carries an air of familiarity. However, departing from this familiarity is its dial. Featuring the same layout as other Lange 1 models, it features an off-center outsize date indication, an asymmetrically positioned black hour and minute sub-dial, and a black seconds sub-dial at 5 oclock. However, as its name alludes, each of its Roman numerals, hour markers, hands, and date display are all brightly lit with luminous material. Featuring a transparent dial that provides a top-down view of the wonderfully finished cal. L905.2 movement and the date wheel, the Lange 1 Lumen is a rather interesting departure from the Lange 1s typically restrained design language.
